"More than a few conservative intellectuals have warmed to Donald Trumpís trade protectionism because it supposedly helps blue-collar Americans. But what if his tariffs do the opposite?"

My (admittedly rudimentary) understanding is that global trade lowers prices but it also disrupts certain local economies, workers in certain industries lose their jobs, etc. It's easy for affluent people to say "move to where the jobs are," but even if you're affluent you have family and friends in a certain area, maybe you like living a certain place and don't want to have to move so someone else can benefit, etc. Maybe there's an argument to be made for a certain degree of solidarity within a nation.

We'll take care of the dumping of goods from China through Canada via NAFTA. Read the full report from the US Trade Representative.

Yeah boy these under 70k households buying new, imported cars every year are going to get fucked!

Or, they could just buy domestic cars. Or used foreign cars. Or they could stick to buying a new one every 5-7 years, like they currently do.

Or they could, you know, get raises due to historically low unemployment.
